The building serves as the centralized headquarters designed to maintain critical operations associated with a major U.S. port during normal circumstances as well as times of natural disasters and terrorism.
Entities involved with these operations include the US Attorney, US Corps of Engineers, Coast Guard, Customs and Immigration Services, FEMA, Louisiana National Guard, and law enforcement agencies (local, state, and federal). A group of sheriffs also share resources in responding to maritime emergencies and utilize this facility as necessary in their corporative efforts.
